How to Get Your Toddler to Sleep in Any Hotel Room
Blackout curtains, white noise, and the one trick that works every single time.
Sleep is the make-or-break factor of family travel. A well-rested toddler is an adventurous toddler. A sleep-deprived one is... not.
Recreate the sleep environment
We travel with a portable blackout blind (Snoozeshade), a small white noise machine, and Edison's sleep sack. These three items recreate his home sleep environment almost exactly.
The same-time rule
We keep nap and bedtime within 30 minutes of home schedule, even across time zones. The first 2 days are rough, but by day 3 Edison has adjusted.
Hotel room setup
Request a crib in advance. Use the bathroom as a 'sleep room' if the main room has too much light or noise. Yes, really — it works.
Edison's pro tip: bring his favorite stuffed animal. Familiar scents and textures are powerful sleep cues for toddlers.
