Honolulu, HawaiiNorth America

Honolulu, Hawaii

The ultimate toddler beach destination

Edison ScoreOur family rating
9/10
Best time: April–May or September–October✈️ Flight time: ~8 hrs from West Cos

Honolulu was the trip that made us believe family travel could be genuinely relaxing. Waikiki's calm bays, warm water, and a culture that welcomes children everywhere — it's the gold standard for toddler beach trips.

💡 Edison's tip: Book a ground-floor resort room — hauling a stroller up stairs with a tired toddler is no fun. And bring reef-safe sunscreen; it's required by law and better for Edison's skin anyway.

Where every train ride is part of the adventure

Edison ScoreOur family rating
10/10
Best time: March–April (cherry blossom) or October–November✈️ Flight time: ~8 hrs from West Cos

Tokyo completely changed how we thought about traveling with a toddler. From spotless trains and welcoming restaurants to interactive museums, beautiful parks, and unforgettable cultural experiences, every day felt like an adventure designed for curious little explorers.

💡 Edison's tip: Ride in the front car of the Shinkansen whenever you can. Watching the conductor, racing through tunnels, and catching your first glimpse of Mount Fuji turns every train ride into an attraction. Before boarding, grab an ekiben (station bento box) — it's one of our favorite parts of the journey.

Guatemala

Volcanoes, color, and culture unlike anywhere else

Edison ScoreOur family rating
8/10
Best time: November–April (dry season)✈️ Flight time: ~8 hrs from West Cos

Guatemala was one of the most visually stunning places we've ever taken Edison. From the mirror-like surface of Lake Atitlán ringed by volcanoes to the cobblestone streets of Antigua, every corner felt like a painting. It's raw, real, and deeply rewarding with a curious toddler in tow.

💡 Edison's tip: Base yourself in Antigua for the first few days to adjust to the altitude and pace. The cobblestones are tough on strollers — bring a carrier. And don't miss the Saturday market in Chichicastenango; Edison was mesmerized by the colors and the chaos.

Costa RicaCentral America

Costa Rica

Pura vida with a toddler in tow

Edison ScoreOur family rating
9/10
Best time: December–April (dry season)✈️ Flight time: ~8 hrs from West Cos

Costa Rica was made for families. The wildlife, the waterfalls, the warm Pacific beaches — and a culture so relaxed and welcoming that traveling with a toddler felt effortless. Edison saw sloths, toucans, and sea turtles all in one week.

💡 Edison's tip: Don't try to see everything — Costa Rica rewards slow travel. Pick one region (Manuel Antonio for beaches, Arenal for volcano and hot springs, Monteverde for cloud forest) and go deep. Trying to drive across the country with a toddler is exhausting.

Dubai, UAE

The world's most family-friendly megacity

Edison ScoreOur family rating
9/10
Best time: October–April (cooler months)✈️ Flight time: ~8 hrs from West Cos

Dubai surprised us completely. We expected glitz and got genuine family warmth. The infrastructure is world-class, the indoor attractions are extraordinary, and the sheer spectacle of the city kept Edison wide-eyed for an entire week.

💡 Edison's tip: Visit October through April — summer heat is genuinely dangerous for toddlers (45°C+). The Dubai Mall is more than a mall; it's a full day out with an aquarium, ice rink, and dinosaur skeleton. And the metro is spotless, air-conditioned, and toddler-friendly.

Vietnam

Ancient streets, floating markets, and pho at every corner

Edison ScoreOur family rating
8/10
Best time: February–April (central Vietnam dry season)✈️ Flight time: ~8 hrs from West Cos

Vietnam was a feast for the senses. From the lantern-lit streets of Hội An to the emerald waters of Hạ Long Bay, every day brought something new to point at, taste, and explore.

💡 Edison's tip: Hội An is the most toddler-friendly base in Vietnam — compact, walkable, and full of color. Hire a private driver for day trips rather than navigating buses. And let Edison try the bánh mì — he demolished his first one in about 90 seconds.

The city of light through a toddler's eyes

Edison ScoreOur family rating
8/10
Best time: April–June or September–October✈️ Flight time: ~8 hrs from West Cos

Paris with a toddler is not the romantic getaway you imagined — it's better. Watching Edison's face light up at the Eiffel Tower and eat his first proper croissant was worth every stroller-on-cobblestone moment.

💡 Edison's tip: Skip the Louvre with a toddler (too big, too crowded) and go to the Musée d'Orsay instead — it's smaller, more manageable, and the Impressionist paintings are genuinely colorful and engaging for little ones. And always have a baguette in the stroller bag.

Red buses, royal parks, and a toddler who loved the Tube

Edison ScoreOur family rating
9/10
Best time: May–September (warmest and longest days)✈️ Flight time: ~8 hrs from West Cos

London is one of the great family cities in the world. Free world-class museums, enormous royal parks, and double-decker buses that Edison treated as the main attraction.

💡 Edison's tip: Get an Oyster card for the Tube and buses on day one. Sit on the top deck of a double-decker bus for any journey — it's free entertainment for a toddler and gives you a great view of the city. And the Natural History Museum is genuinely one of the best toddler destinations on earth.

Cabo San LucasNorth America

Cabo San Lucas

Desert meets ocean at the tip of Baja

Edison ScoreOur family rating
8/10
Best time: October–May (cooler and calmer seas)✈️ Flight time: ~8 hrs from West Cos

Cabo was our first easy international trip with Edison — close to home, no jet lag, and warm water from day one. The dramatic desert-meets-ocean landscape is unlike any other beach destination.

💡 Edison's tip: Stay on the Cabo San Lucas marina side or in San José del Cabo for calmer water — the Pacific side has strong currents not suitable for toddlers. The Sea of Cortez beaches (Medano Beach, Palmilla) are calm and perfect. And the glass-bottom boat tour to El Arco is a must — Edison was glued to the window.

Thailand

Temples, tuk-tuks, and the most toddler-friendly smiles on earth

Edison ScoreOur family rating
9/10
Best time: November–February (cool and dry season)✈️ Flight time: ~8 hrs from West Cos

Thailand completely won us over as a family destination. From the golden temples of Chiang Mai to the turquoise waters of the islands, every corner welcomed Edison with open arms — Thai culture has a deep reverence for children.

💡 Edison's tip: Chiang Mai is the perfect base for first-timers — cooler than Bangkok, walkable, and packed with toddler-friendly experiences. The Sunday Walking Street market is a sensory feast. And always carry a small bag of snacks; Thai street food is amazing but some spice levels catch toddlers off guard.
